Finding Community at the Community Affairs Farmers Market
There’s something special about fall mornings in Arizona — the air a little cooler, the light golden, and the sense of the season shifting. This year marked the second season of the Community Affairs Farmers Market, and it’s already becoming a staple in our area, Voted best market of 2025 by the community through Surprise Community Votes.
Held every Saturday, the market has grown into more than just a place to shop — it’s a space where neighbors connect, and small businesses thrive.

This past weekend, the market celebrated the spooky season with a Trick-or-Treat day, since the market won’t be open on Halloween weekend. Families arrived in costumes, kids darted between booths with candy buckets, and the whole atmosphere buzzed with that cozy mix of festivity and togetherness that defines the best community events.
What struck me most, though, wasn’t just the colorful displays or the themed fun — it was the dedication and heart behind the scenes. Kristin and her family, who organize the entire market, pour endless effort into making sure every vendor and visitor feels welcome. Their commitment shows in every detail — and with the friendly and welcoming atmosphere they've built. You can feel that they’re not just running a market; they’re nurturing a community.
The sense of camaraderie among the regular vendors is just as inspiring. There’s an unspoken bond that forms between those who show up week after week, setting up tables in the early morning light, sharing stories, passing good mornings, coffee, and encouragement. Everyone supports each other — whether it’s swapping baked goods for fresh produce, or simply sharing tips and smiles with each other. It feels less like competition and more like collaboration, which is rare and refreshing to see.

Walking through the market, you’re surrounded by an assortment of locally made crafts and artisan goods that truly capture the creativity of the community. From jars of golden honey to handmade soaps, from fresh baked breads and decadent desserts to hand-stitched crafts and jewelry — every booth tells a story about one another.
The air is filled with the comforting aroma of food from local trucks serving up everything from authentic Mexican dishes to handmade Italian favorites. It’s the kind of place where you come for one thing, but end up leaving with a bag full of surprises and a smile you didn’t realize was forming.
For us personally, joining the Community Affairs Farmers Market has been about more than just showcasing our products — it’s been about connection. It’s given our business the chance to grow, but also to share something deeply meaningful: raising awareness about NF2 (Neurofibromatosis Type 2). Being part of this market community has opened unexpected doors — we’ve met new people, shared our story, and even had the touching experience of meeting others living with the same condition or families affected by it. Moments like those remind us that the heart of community isn’t just commerce — it’s compassion.
Each weekend at the market reinforces something I think many of us have felt but don’t always say out loud: that local markets are more than just gatherings of small businesses. They’re the heartbeat of our neighborhoods — places that encourage growth, connection, and creativity. They give small businesses a platform, families a place to spend time together, and individuals a chance to be part of something larger than themselves.
As we head into the rest of the season, I’m filled with gratitude for being part of a space that uplifts others and brings genuine warmth to our community. The Community Affairs Farmers Market isn’t just an event — it’s a reminder of what happens when people come together with purpose and heart.
If you haven’t been yet, I encourage you to stop by one Saturday. Bring your family, your friends, and your curiosity. You’ll leave not just with fresh food and handcrafted goods — but with a renewed appreciation for the power of community and the people who make it thrive.
