Main Story Candles - The Inspiration Behind Coffee House.

The Scent that Started It All...

A lot of our customers already know the story behind our candles and how much they’re connected to our family, especially our dear Marissa. She’s the heart of so many of our scents, and one of the most special to us is Coffee House. It holds so many memories for us, and it all started with something as simple as our family's weekly routine. It’s more than just a scent in a jar — it’s a piece of our story.

Life can be tough, and sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference. For Marissa, it was brewing a fresh cup of coffee in the morning or taking our weekly trip to Dutch Brothers. It became her little obsession, a daily ritual that brought her so much comfort.

Despite the physical challenges Marissa faced, including being blind, she always fought to stay independent. One of her favorite things to do every morning was to make her way to the kitchen and brew her favorite thing in the world — coffee. By 9 a.m., the smell of freshly brewed coffee would fill the whole house, waking everyone up and getting us all in the mood for the day. It was more than just the smell — it was a routine, a sense of comfort that set the tone for the day.

You could count on finding Marissa in the kitchen, tucked into her usual corner by the coffee machine. She’d brew her Dutch coffee with precision, never spilling a drop, thanks to a spill sensor our mom found online for her. The little device would vibrate to let her know when her mug was full enough. It was simple, but it made all the difference in letting her enjoy the process on her own terms.

If we weren’t making coffee at home, we’d take a short drive to Dutch Brothers, just down the street from us in Goodyear, Arizona. For nearly 10 years, we made it a point to visit this spot every day. It didn’t matter what kind of day we were having — the friendly faces at Dutch Brothers made us feel like we were right at home. And the drinks? Always exactly how we wanted them.

While I was the one trying new drinks off the menu, Marissa always stuck with the same thing: a large raspberry white chocolate freeze. Without fail, she’d finish half of it by the time we got home, and we’d laugh at how fast she’d downed it. It was her go-to, and it always made the trip feel special.

When we started Main Story Candles, our goal was to bring our family’s stories to life through fragrance. Coffee House was the perfect scent to start with. For Marissa, a cup of coffee wasn’t just a drink — it was a moment of peace and happiness, a comforting part of her daily routine. It was one of the things that connected her to the world, and we wanted to capture that feeling in a candle.

We knew the first scent had to have coffee at its core. After experimenting with a few different ideas, we created a fragrance that smelled just like the inside of a cozy café, with the rich scent of freshly brewed coffee and the sweet aroma of baked goods filling the air. Lighting a Coffee House candle feels like being transported to your favorite coffee shop, where everything smells just right. It’s been one of our favorite scents, and our customers seem to agree!
